Many patients do not benefit from the first drug or dosing they are offered in treatment. According to several studies, about 5.3 % of all hospital admissions are associated with adverse drug reactions. In fact, between 2000 and 2011, the number of adverse drug reactions recorded by the FDA nearly tripled.
Many adverse drug reactions result from improper drug dosing, especially by using frustrating and costly practice of trial‑and‑error prescribing. The aim of optimal pharmacotherapy is to tailor the medical treatment to the individual characteristics of each patient.
MwPharm++ is clinical pharmacokinetic software.
It is used primarily to establish proper a priori or/and a posteriori dosing regimens based on population pharmacokinetics of the particular drug and individual patient physiological parameters.
MwPharm++ is powerful therapeutic drug management tool which is built on Edsim++ platform to enable creation of a user‑defined PKPD compartment models and their utilization in MwPharm++ for therapeutic drug management.
Comparing to older versions of the software, MwPharm++ includes a larger, still expanding database of drugs and their pharmacokinetic parameters.
Almost 300 drugs are available in the MwPharm++ drug database in October 2014.
For several drugs are available modified pharmacokinetic parameters according to genotype/phenotype of the patient. MwPharm genetic module is currently developed (since October 2014).
It is possible to add easily specific pharmacokinetic parameters of the particular drug for different groups of patients (adults, neonate, patients with specific diagnosis, etc.)
Dosing support software is considered a regulated medical device. MwPharm++ obtained EC marking in June 2014.
